The Self Preservation Society
This triple vinyl album features 34 carefully-chosen songs from the late 1960s and early 1970s, from genres that encompass progressive, folk and psychedelic rock.
Curated by Lush’s Mark Constantine and performed by a galaxy of bright stars, the album captures a period of time that was rich with experimentation of all kinds, an era when anything and everything could happen.
Original compositions from artists as diverse as Genesis, Cream, The Zombies, Nick Drake, The Doors and Frank Zappa have been given the deluxe treatment by a phalanx of great talent including James Porter, Eliza Carthy, Jackie Oates, Marry Waterson and Julie Tippetts.
It’s been three long years in the making; the result is an extraordinarily diverse and diverting record.
The Tah - Dahs
The Tah Dahs are a Dallas-based indie rock band formed in 2001 by Roy Ivy and James Porter. The original lineup started as a five piece and included friends Chris Fowler on rhythm and Wurlitzer, Adam Carter on bass and Rebecca Kraemer on viola. Ivy left for a year's stint to tour and record with the Polyphonic Spree. On his return to Dallas, the band trimmed down to a power trio and began to write a more aggressive style of pop music with James Porter on drums, Charlie Papathanasiou on bass and of course Roy Ivy on guitar and vocals. In 2005, the band released Le Fun on Dallas's indie label Undeniable Records. Later that year, work began with Master Engineer and Producer Stuart Sikes on a follow-up album, Mein So Called Kampf, which was released on Bandcamp. The band called it quits in September of 2012. Both Roy Ivy and James Porter continued to collaborate together as well as release their own solo albums.
